Technology Recharge Fee

The Technology Recharge Fee (TRF) was established in 2010 to provide a sustainable long-term funding model for critical information technology services at the UW. The fee is a per capita rate paid by all UW academic and administrative units to supplement existing central funds, which pay for the basic services. Please, see TRF Overview for more details.

Technology Fee Review and Rate Setting Process

The IT Service Investment Board is charged by the Provost with conducting an annual review of the TRF level and methodology. The Provost approved the Board’s recommendation to implement a slight increase to the TRF rates for FY 2021 to support an additional $250,000 in permanent funding to help address the increase in cybersecurity risk at the University.

In accordance with the board’s recommendation, the existing cost allocation methodology for the TRF will remain the same until after the implementation of UW Finance Transformation. At that time, the methodology will undergo a full review and recalibration.

The Board’s recommendation reflects advice from the Technology Recharge Fee Advisory Committee, which provides in-depth analysis and counsel. The committee is comprised of administrators representing academic and administrative units, as well as UW Medical Centers.
