Information about the NTP at the UW
This computer is a "stratum 3" NTP (Network Time Protocol) system because it's the third tier
from the actual time source. This computer's clock is
synchronized with local stratum 1 servers, including one here on the University
of Washington campus. The time of the
stratum 1 systems is kept precisely in sync with a GPS receiver.
The NTP protocol takes network propagation delays into account
when synchronizing time.
That said, the time displayed may be up to several seconds slow due to the delay between computing
the time of day and actually displaying in your Web browser over the network.
