LENGTH 3 months (approx. 20 hours per week)

The EMT program at North Seattle College (NSC) prepares students to work as EMTs under King County standards and requirements. Coursework covers the roles and responsibilities of an EMT, patient assessment, emergency procedures, and the proper use and maintenance of medical equipment.

Admission to the EMT program requires an entrance exam. Details about the exam content and requirements are provided during the mandatory information session.

This intensive one quarter program includes lectures, hands-on practice and techniques for: introduction to emergency care, bleeding and shock, soft tissue injuries, environmental emergencies, lifting and moving patients, emergency childbirth, and much, much more. At the end of the training, successful participants are qualified for the National Registry of EMT’s examination.

It adheres to the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, The National EMS Educational Standards, the Instructor Guidelines Published in January 2009, and the Washington State Amended EMS Educational Standards. The EMT Class is a stressful, fast-paced course that requires both cognitive and psychomotor skills working together. Our process prepares you to achieve the best outcome for the citizen that activates the Emergency Medical System (EMS), thus requesting the services provided by EMT’s, Paramedics, and Hospital staff.

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This person possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency medical technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency medical technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance or fire apparatus. The emergency medical technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program offers career training for entry-level personnel as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the added education of a more rich history of EMS and the safety and well-being of the EMT. Successful completion of this EMT Career Pathway Certificate of Completion leads to eligibility to sit for the State of Oregon and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certifying exam.

Lane Community College’s EMT Course prepares you to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Cognitive and Psychomotor exams. After you’ve successfully passed the NREMT exams, you’ll be eligible to receive both a national and Oregon EMT license. An EMT license from Lane opens the door to many different career opportunities including Community First Responders, Paid Emergency and Non-Emergency Ambulance Transportations, Rapid Extraction Module Support Teams (REMS), EMS Contract Services, and more.

This is a certificate that takes less than one year to complete. This program is for those who want to prepare to take the Oregon and NREMT exams. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis, based on fully completing the application process. For best consideration, all minimum application requirements need to be complete two weeks prior to the start of your intended term. Class capacity varies by term.

Chemeketa’s EMT program will prepare you for entry-level jobs as an EMT and equip you for passing state and/or national registry exams leading to a license. You will learn about the human anatomy, emergency medical science and medical terminology as you make your way through the program. You will also learn hands-on skills to allow you to practice medicine once you obtain your EMT license. These skills are learned through intense face to face labs, hospital clinical rotation and ambulance ride time.
