Next Generation Medicine: The Opioid Epidemic with David J. Tauben, M.D.

As the use of prescription opioid medication to relieve chronic pain grows, we find ourselves in the midst of an epidemic that is hitting especially hard in smaller communities. Dr. Tauben, a nationally renowned and often-quoted expert on this topic, shared his thoughts on the treatment of chronic pain and what patients need to know. Dr. Tauben spoke with a few first year medical students over lunch before heading off to the Historic Davenport to speak to the local community.

CoMotion Innovation Pop up Event

CoMotion Labs @Spokane hosted an innovation pop-up event for entrepreneurs, students, tinkerers, thinkers and more. Over 50 9th graders from Innovation High School came for the day and were able to experience VR, AR and 3-D Printing for the first time. We also hosted a group from Fuse Co-working space out of the Tri-Cities.  Thank you to the CoMotion team for hosting a great event, traveling from Seattle and bringing speakers to share with the Spokane community.

New Huskies Welcome Event

Today we hosted an event for Spokane students who were admitted into UW for Fall of 2018. Around 40 new students and their families came by our office to ask questions regarding next steps. They also were able to speak to local alums that stopped by about their experience at UW. Congrats to all of the #NewHuskies2018.

If you’re a new Husky or a parent of a new Husky stop by our office to pick up a yard sign to show your Husky pride!

UWAA Alumni Social- Spokane

Over 60 local Spokane alumni gathered at Barrister Winery for an evening of community. Thank you UWAA for coming to Spokane and giving our alumni a chance to connect, create community and celebrate our love for UW.

President Cauce visits the Tri Cities

President Cauce was in the Tri Cities this week for a few different events.

On Tuesday night, The UWAA team hosted an Alumni reception for local alumni which was a great turnout. President Cauce was able to speak about what UW is doing in Eastern Washington and answer a few questions.

On Wednesday President Cauce and Dr. Ashby, Director of PNNL announced our new partnership called the Northwest Institute for Materials Physics, Chemistry and Technology, or NW IMPACT which you can read about here. The creation of the NW IMPACT is a joint research endeavor to power discoveries and advancements in materials that transform energy, telecommunications, medicine, information technology and other fields. Prior to the partnership announcement we were able to take a tour of the labs.

After PNNL, President Cauce was the key note speaker at the Women in Business Conference lunch hosted by Tri Cities Regional Chamber. Over 700 people were in attendance for this luncheon.
