We’re excited to return to in-person learning this fall and to welcome you to — or back to — campus. As you prepare for autumn quarter, there are a number of things that you need to do in advance to ensure you start the quarter safely and successfully. We’ve created a Back-to-School Checklist to help you get ready. There you’ll find details on steps you need to take before you set out for campus, as well as the things to bring with you.

Masks required for all individuals in all UW facilities (Message to UW students and personnel)

In response to the increased spread of the coronavirus in the communities surrounding our campuses and based on updated recommendations from University of Washington health experts, effective Saturday, August 14, the University is reinstating an indoor mask mandate for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status.

Masks strongly recommended in UW facilities where they’re not already required (Message to UW students and personnel)

We are now strongly recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask or other face covering indoors when other people are present and in all public and common areas, such as lobbies, hallways, stairways, restrooms, elevators and shared vehicles. We continue to monitor the situation, and we should all be prepared for the possibility that this will become a mandate if public health requires it.

UW Medicine guidance on masking (Message to UW Medicine personnel)

The University of Washington recently announced that face coverings are now optional for fully vaccinated individuals at UW campuses and facilities. For the safety of our patients, staff, students, trainees and faculty, UW Medicine employees are required to continue to mask in all patient care areas, hospitals and clinics consistent with CDC, Washington State Labor and Industries, and public health recommendations.

Changes to face coverings, vaccination requirements and other COVID-19 updates (Message to UW students and personnel)

Washington state’s continued vaccination progress resulted in the end of many coronavirus-related restrictions on June 30. Today, we are bringing the UW’s policies into alignment with these new regulations and writing to you to highlight key parts of those changes.

Masking, distancing requirements remain in effect

The University’s current masking, distancing, capacity and other requirements for Healthy Washington Phase 3 remain in effect. Masks continue to be required in all UW facilities, regardless of your vaccination status. Details can be found on the COVID-19 recovery status page.
