Importance of continuing COVID-19 testing and getting vaccinated (Message sent to UW Husky Coronavirus Testing participants)

Dear Husky Coronavirus Testing Participant,

Thank you for your continued dedication to the Husky Coronavirus Testing study. This message is being sent out to all of our participants today to emphasize the importance of participating in testing even with increased availability of vaccines. We are also asking you to complete the Monthly Survey to update your information. The link to take this survey is at the bottom of this message.

Recent Husky Coronavirus Testing data indicates that fully vaccinated individuals can still test positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, all of the FDA-authorized vaccines provide strong protection against health effects that could lead to hospitalization or death, and the positive cases we’ve detected in people who have been vaccinated all had mild or no symptoms.

We do not yet know if vaccinated people can still spread the coronavirus to others. As a result, if you’re fully vaccinated please continue to get tested and take other precautions as advised by the University of Washington and the CDC, such as wearing masks and distancing when around people who haven’t yet been fully vaccinated.

We are asking all of our vaccinated and unvaccinated participants to:

  •   Fill out the Daily Check-ins
  •   Get tested for COVID-19 if you are experiencing symptoms, have been exposed, attend a large gathering without precautions, or get invited for a community testing appointment
  •   Participate in post-spring break testing if invited to do so

We encourage all of our participants to get vaccinated when they become eligible. Once vaccinated, it may take a couple weeks for your body to develop immunity after receiving both doses.

Please continue to be vigilant at slowing the spread of this virus for the safety of yourself and your community.
