COVID-19 Cases Are Rising — Protect Yourself and Your Community

You now have the opportunity to receive early access to a new COVID-19 exposure notification app.

The University of Washington is partnering with the Washington State Department of Health to extend early access to the Washington COVID-19 Exposure Notifications app to UW employees. Students living on or near campuses have had the opportunity to download the app since early November, and we are now able to expand this pilot to staff, faculty and other academic personnel. This early access project will help the Washington State Department of Health pilot mobile phone-based exposure notifications prior to making the app available state-wide.

The WA Exposure Notifications app gives you an easy, automated way to find out if you’ve had a potential COVID-19 exposure from another app user. It does all this while preserving your privacy and ensuring you are in control of all of your information.

Exposure notifications from this app can help keep you and other Huskies safer and help slow the spread of coronavirus on the UW campus and in our broader community. Participation is voluntary and is in addition to — not a replacement for — the important COVID-19 contact tracing currently being done by UW’s Environmental Health and Safety Department and your local health jurisdiction.

If you are interested in participating, you can download the app at wanotify.uw.edu/uw.

Whether or not you download the WA Exposure Notifications app, please take our brief survey to tell us what you think of using mobile technology to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WA Exposure Notifications app is currently available only to University of Washington students and employees, with the exception of UW Medicine clinical employees. The app must be downloaded via links provided in this email and is not searchable in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If this email is forwarded to users outside of the UW community, app features and communications may not be relevant to the user until the state-wide launch.
