Student appeals
Administrative Review is available for students or in some cases, the University, to appeal decisions issued by an investigator or Hearing Officer. If a review is requested, a panel of reviewing officers will complete a review of the case and decision based on the reasons specified in the request for review. Review panels can be composed of UW faculty and students. (Note: Student reviewing officers will not serve on panels for sexual misconduct matters.)
The Review Coordinator is a University staff member who works independently of conduct offices and the Civil Rights Compliance Office (CRC) to facilitate the administrative review process. The Review Coordinator is a non-voting member of the review panel.
Keep in mind that the opportunity to request an Administrative Review is time-limited. An Administrative Review must be requested within 21 days of the issuance of the Initial Order. If one is not requested, the Initial Order becomes a Final Order.
Employee Appeals
An Appeal is available for parties in investigations involving employee respondents. In Title IX cases, an appeal is available after the hearing. Complainants and respondents may make a timely request for an appeal based on specific grounds. The grounds for appeal can be found in the General Procedures or Title IX Procedures on the CRC Policy page. If an appeal is requested, an Appeal Decision-Maker will initiate the Appeal and review the decision along with relevant information submitted by the parties. They will issue a written decision that either affirms the investigator’s decision, or remands the case to the investigator for further action.
The Appeal Decision-Maker is a staff member designated by the University to facilitate the appeal process and make a decision about the Appeal.
Keep in mind that the opportunity to request an Appeal is time-limited. If an Appeal is not requested in a timely manner, the decision becomes the final decision in the investigation.
