BRIDGES4

School of Medicine, Office of Research and Graduate Education

The University of Washington Biomedical Research Identification of Graduate Education Successful Student Support Services (BRIDGES4) Program is a series of innovative services and support mechanisms which are planned to increase the ability of our biomedical graduate programs to attract, retain, and promote the success of underrepresented minority students. Through the National Institute of Graduate Medical Science (NIGMS), the program has received four years of funding totaling $1.2 million.

Tools for Transformation (TFT) support will be used for transitional funding for the BRIDGES4 Project Coordinator position beginning autumn, 1999. Eighteen months of TFT funding will support this position and enable implementation of BRIDGES4 initiatives in the broader University community until anticipated NIGMS funding is approved and received.

The Project Coordinator will focus on BRIDGES4 programming in Arts and Sciences, Engineering and at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma, working with graduate and professional students, as well as school- and department-level administration and faculty on recruitment and retention activities, campus collaborations, special programs and activities, and evaluation.
