UGARIT 201 Ugaritic I (5) A&H
Introduction to the Ugaritic (Canaanite) language of ancient Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra, circa fourteenth century BCE). Introduces the cuneiform alphabet and distinctive grammatical features; proceeds to an inductive reading of the Ugaritic tablets. Texts include the Epic of Aqhat, the Baal Epic, and the Epic of Kret. First in a three course sequence. Prerequisite: either ARAB 103, ARAB 105, MODHEB 103, or MODHEB 105.
