Dear Colleagues:
Over the past several years, we have moved in the direction of a more complex, federated relationship among our three campuses. I am appointing the Tri-Campus Advisory Committee in recognition of the increasing importance of integration and coordination between and among the campuses, each of which maintains a unique culture, mission, student population, and means of achieving its mission. I ask the Committee to provide advocacy and vision for the three-campus University.
The establishment of an advisory committee was recommended in the UW's accreditation review last June and by the earlier Three-Campus Steering Committee chaired by Dean Nancy Hooyman. The Committee will be advisory to the Provost, with membership by virtue of position. Its primary focus will be on how best to serve the needs of students across the UW Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma campuses. To accomplish this, the Committee will consider such topics and issues as:
New program planning and initiation will remain at the program level. The Committee will recommend overall policy that will facilitate the movement of students between and among the three campuses, facilitate processes for program and curricular review and initiation, and support the continued development of our three unique but complementary high-quality campuses. Proposed policies will support the distinctive mission of each campus within the overall mission of the University of Washington and recognize the particular characteristics and needs of each campus and its students.
In this spirit, I ask the Committee to meet regularly rather than on an ad hoc basis. Norm Rose, Chair, will contact you with regard to meetings. I look forward to the work of this committee.
Sincerely,
Lee L. Huntsman
Provost
