Canvas LMS Introduction

This workshop provides an overview of the Canvas learning management system, and introduces you to its robust features. This includes syllabus creation, online assignment submission, providing student feedback, collaboration options, and more. Even if you are not currently teaching with Canvas, the workshop will help you evaluate your teaching and collaboration options in the future.  Register for this workshop now.

Canvas LMS: Quizzes

This workshop gives a detailed overview of Canvas quizzes. This includes creating quizzes and handling quiz settings. You will be introduced to question banks in Canvas and using those question banks to manage questions. We will go over how you can use the built-in ‘Quiz statistics’ to gain an insight to the outcomes of your quiz. You will also be provided a detailed walk-through of quiz migration from Catalyst WebQ into Canvas.
      This course is designed for individuals who have prior experience with the Canvas LMS. Individuals new to Canvas will be better served by the "Canvas LMS Introduction" course. Register for this workshop now.

Canvas LMS: Outcomes and Rubrics

This workshop will specifically focus on creating & using rubrics for grading purposes. Also, the workshop demonstrates how to develop, search, and embed outcomes within your Canvas course, allowing for alignment to departmental and institutional requirements.

Canvas LMS: Moving from Catalyst to Canvas

This workshop will focus on introducing users to the Catalyst CommonView download and Catalyst WebQ import features. We will cover the basics of exporting your content from CommonView and best practices for organizing your content, moving it to Canvas and thinking about the structure of your course. There will also be a brief walk through of quiz migration from WebQ into Canvas.

Using Canvas to Support In-Class Instruction 

Hundreds of teachers at UW have adopted Canvas to collect assignments, arrange discussion groups, and speed up their grading. But is that all it can do? In this seminar-style workshop, we will discuss strategies for bringing Learning Management System into your classroom. Topics will include the use of forums and quizzes for real-time instructor feedback, support for in-class study groups, and ways to use Canvas to encourage student engagement with content presented in class. Participants should have some past experience with Tegrity and Canvas (introductory workshops are recommended), but newcomers who are planning to move towards blended learning are also welcome.  Register for this workshop now. 

Blended Learning Using Lecture Capture and Learning Management Systems

This interactive, seminar-style workshop will discuss some of the new options for blended learning that are available to faculty and instructors at UW. The session focuses on how two new tools, Tegrity and Canvas, can be integrated into a system that facilitates learning and feedback for students and teachers. Topics include a discussion of blended approaches, the creation of activities that support blended learning, and a technical walkthrough of the combined use of Tegriy and Canvas. Participants should have some past experience with Tegrity and Canvas (introductory workshops are recommended), but newcomers who are planning to move towards blended learning are also welcome.  Register for this workshop now.

Get Started with Tegrity

Tegrity is a video recording tool that allows Faculty, TAs, and staff to easily post and manage educational video content. Faculty can now "Flip the Classroom" to free up class time for discussion, group discovery, and increased engagement. In this hands-on workshop, you will download and install the Tegrity recorder and create your first Tegrity recording. We will watch example recordings and learn creative ways other instructors use Tegrity. Find out what equipment is best used to create high quality recordings. Learn how to include Tegrity recordings in Canvas LMS content. We will learn how to use Tegrity Manager to create custom courses, add viewers to your recordings, and get staff access to Tegrity. Catalyst Web Tools for Teaching and Research

This workshop provides an overview of Catalyst web tools with a focus on use in both teaching and research.  You will learn how to create tools and discover the various collaboration and security settings that are available.  An introduction Catalyst CommonView and the WebQ survey tool are also provided.  CommonView is often used to give UW courses an "online presence," and WebQ is a powerful platform that allows you to design and administer online quizzes and surveys to a wide range of audiences. There are currently no Catalyst workshops scheduled. Teaching with UW Google Apps

Learn how to make use of Google Apps on the UW campus. In this workshop you will set up a UW Google Apps account, learn how to administer Google Sites, set various levels of permissions, and have Sites submitted as an assignment. Time permitting; we will also discuss examples of educational Google Apps use. There are currently no Google Apps workshops scheduled
