January Ignite! Session 1/25/2012
Save the date and join us for an Ignite! event on January 25th at 3pm in Odegaard Library, room 220.
We'll kick off this event with an overview of key findings from UW-IT's Triennial Surveys on Teaching, Learning, and Research Technologies. These surveys gather information from faculty members, researchers, teaching assistants, and students at UW-Seattle about how they use technology to do their work; what support and obstacles they experience in using technology; and where they believe the UW should place its resources in the future.
Following the survey overview, several UW faculty will offer Ignite! presentations on innovative uses of technology for teaching and learning. Each 5-minute presentation will be followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.
Currently, the Ignite! line-up includes:
- Using the Canvas eLearning system to hold virtual office hours: AJ Boydston, Chemistry
- Helping students analyze extremely large data sets with SQLShare: Robin Kodner, Oceanography
- Keeping students engaged with back-channel chat in a lecture class: Mike Eisenberg, iSchool
- Using the ALEKS intelligent tutoring system to get Chemistry students up to speed: Phil Reid, Chemistry
- Simplifying lecture capture, increasing class engagement, and easing review of course material with Tegrity: TBD
In addition to the presentations, stations will be available for hands-on demos of Canvas and Tegrity.
