UW-IT recently released two reports summarizing studies on student technology needs and outlining the use of mobile devices at the University of Washington.
Understanding UW Students' Technology Needs summarizes findings from multiple studies on student perception and use of technology at the UW. Derived from student surveys, the report includes findings on student attitudes towards laptops, classroom technology, web 2.0 technologies, and more.
Student Use of Mobile Devices: Findings from the 2009 ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology includes data collected from UW students by the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR). The report compares UW and other 4-year institutions on student use of mobile devices and their attitudes towards potential mobile IT applications geared towards student administrative services, campus information, streaming course lectures, library services, etc.
