Storage Quotas on Central Servers

IT Connect > Software and Hardware > Storage Quotas

Overview

Beginning March 1, 2011, a new system for managing your storage quota begins.

Your storage quota is the maximum amount of storage space allocated to your computing account on the UW Information Technology Central Servers. Formerly, one storage quota was shared among email, Web Publishing, and UNIX storage. Currently, each type of service is granted a default storage quota as described in the tables below. Faculty and staff can use a UW budget number to purchase additional space in 1 gigabyte (GB) increments via the UW NetID Manage Web page. Students are limited to the established quotas. Information on purchasing additional storage space is available in the UW-IT Service catalog. Billing for additional storage quotas will begin December 2011.

UW NetID Support Group

Departments have the ability to manage additional storage space once they establish a UW NetID Support Group and their users have linked their UW NetID to the support group.

Transferring Files From Unix and Web Publishing Locations

Files stored inside Unix or Web Publishing space are accessible with a secure file transfer protocol software program. (Secure FTP) program. Once connected to homer.u.washington.edu (for employees) or dante.u.washington.edu (for students), files can be copied, removed, or uploaded with a secure file transfer program.

Additionally files inside the Web publishing space can often be managed from within a Web development tool, such as Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage. For additional details please see Using HTML Authoring Tools at the UW.
