Notify.UW Lets UW Students Know When Courses Have Openings

Notify_60Want to receive a text message or email when space becomes available in a course during the quarter registration process? A new, free tool called Notify.UW does just that. It’s integrated into the UW Time Schedule and MyUW and will help UW students register for high-demand courses as well as collect valuable information that can be used to adjust course offerings. Watch the “how-to” video and then subscribe. Notify.UW is a collaborative effort of UW-IT and the Office of the University Registrar.

Online TV for UW Residence Hall Students: Testing Underway

Tv_60More than 1700 UW residence hall students are watching TV news, sports, and more from their laptops anywhere on campus in a trial run that started in April and runs through spring quarter. The Tivli online TV service provides 32 channels and will likely expand to 72 if implemented in the fall, reports The Daily. Access to HBO and HBO GO was just added this month. Authorized students can point their laptop Web browser to uw.tivli.com. Access to non-local cable channels is only available to HuskyTV subscribers, including UW students living in residence halls.

UW Students Get Course Registration Planning Help in MyPlan

Myplan3_60UW students can more easily plan for class registration using new features recently added to MyPlan, the online academic planning tool for students and their advisers. Now you can get real-time seat availability for each section and view your plan one quarter at a time, displaying sections from the current Time Schedule that you can easily add or delete. Coming next: Notification of suspended or withdrawn sections, plus the ability to check your plan against degree requirements, including running a degree audit report in MyPlan.

UW Teleconferencing Service Improvements Coming

Teleconference_60A more reliable and secure UW teleconferencing service for subscribers goes live June 19, continuing to provide on-demand conference calls for up to 30 participants. This new version of the Meet-Me Conferencing service uses a new, single conference number (206-616-CONF), with each on-demand conference account having a distinct passcode, which helps with security and system administration. The current monthly rate for this service, provided through UW-IT, will remain the same. Get details.

E-RESOURCE: Underground & Independent Comics

Food_60 Underground & Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels is a scholarly, primary-source database focused on comic books and graphic novels for adults. It includes original works of both famous and overlooked artists, with interviews, criticism, and journal articles that document the continual growth and evolution of this art form. This UW-restricted resource is provided by the UW Libraries.

How Technology Helps Students Learn: New UW Provost Report
