The University of Washington: Facilities Services

Building Access

The Properties will be staffed with security personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A Husky Card with photo is required for occupants. Visitors will need to have either a Husky Card (with or without photo), or photo identification such as a driver’s license. All staff and visitors will be required to enter the building through the main entrance in the Tower Atrium off Brooklyn Avenue or via the sky bridge leading from the garage. The building is equipped with programmable card systems that control access through all doors, elevators, and from the parking garage sky bridge.

Normal Hours of Operation

Business hours are 6:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Elevators and stairwell doors will be unlocked, allowing access for all tenants and visitors between floors. This access can be limited during business hours by floor occupants where required and as designated by pre-arranged access authorizations.

After Hours Access

If you wish to access the Tower or the Loading Dock after normal business hours you must:

  • Have an authorized CAAMS proximity card
  • Have previous arrangements with Operations Staff

NOTE: Only one proximity card may be active for an individual at a time. Proximity cards are University of Washington property and must be returned to the issuing department upon termination of appointment, employment and/or registration.

Tenant Access

Occupants and employees will have full access to the Properties during business hours. Exceptions to full access are areas that may be restricted due to tenant access authorizations. All employees residing in the Tower properties will be issued a one-inch-diameter wafer that will attach to their photo Husky Card. This wafer is required for use with the card access control system. Temporary employees will be issued a temporary access badge.

Visitor Access

University affiliated visitors with a Husky Card will be have access to the Tower during business hours and will need to swipe their card through the turnstile magnetic card readers upon entry. Non-University affiliated visitors will be required to check-in with a photo ID at one of the two staffed visitor desks. One is located in the main lobby in the Tower atrium; the other is located inside the building just across the sky bridge from the parking garage. After check in, visitors will have full access during business hours as outlined above under tenant access.

NOTE: Due to the open access configuration of most floors, tenants are highly encouraged to meet their visitors at the entry point and escort them to their destinations. This will preclude visitors from becoming lost and encroaching on other occupants.

Garage Access

The UW Tower parking garage will be open and attended by Parking Services personnel during business hours and special events. There will be ample visitor parking on the 3rd floor adjacent to the sky bridge entrance to the buildings. Off hours access is restricted to building occupants with parking permits via the building card access control system. All vehicles and pedestrians will be able to exit the garage at any time.

NOTE: All campus parking permits will be honored at the Tower parking garage until June 30, 2008. After that time, Tower parking garage permits will be required.
