Motor Pool News

  • October 3rd through 7th is Drive Safely Work Week

Motor Pool is proud to observe Drive Safely Work Week as part of a campaign to promote safe driving year round." The goal of Drive Safely Work Week is to emphasize the importance of driving safely on and off the job to reduce preventable traffic crashes. The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) sponsors this national campaign annually to promote safe driving for all employees, whether they drive for work or commute to and from work. "Be Ready. Be Set. Be Focused," the theme for this year's campaign encourages drivers to devote their full attention to the driving task." (Provided by NETS). NETS Web Site
In addition to providing safe driving tips from NETS, the Motor Pool rental office also has a video "The Road To Safety", which can be checked out by any UW Staff, Student or faculty.Video Request Form

  • Fuel Saving Tips

Here are some tips on how you keep your fuel costs down:

    1. Check your Tire Pressure - This is the cheapest and easiest way to control fuel expenses and the one most often overlooked. When a tire is under-inflated by 4-5 psi, vehicle fuel consumption increases by 10%!

    2. Clean out the Trunk and Eliminate Unnecessary Weight - The less weight a vehicle carries, the less fuel it will consume. Remember to clean out your trunk and cargo areas and only carry those items necessary to do your job.

    3. Avoid Long Idling - When a car idles, it's mileage is 0 miles per gallon! Idling for long periods of time, whether at a bridge, railroad crossing, or pulling off the road to make a phone call, consumes gas that could be saved by simply turning off the engine.

    4. Be an Energy Conscious Driver - Just like turning the lights off at home, practice energy conservation when you drive. Only use the air conditioner when needed - it can reduce fuel consumption by 5-20%!

    5. Use Cruise Control - Unnecessary changes in speed are wasteful. When driving on the highway, use the vehicle's cruise control to minimize changing speeds.

    6. Stick to the Speed Limit and Anticipate Traffic - Driving fast wastes gas. As does stop-and-go traffic. Adhere to speed limits to conserve fuel. In commuter traffic, look two or more vehicles ahead rather than watching the vehicle in front of you. This will enable you to accelerate and decelerate more gradually.

    Administrative Notes

    • Parking in E2

In Response to our clients suggestions, we have installed a second After Hour Drop Off Box in the E2 parking lot!! The original drop box is still located along the fence behind the Motorpool office and the new drop off box is located in the South West corner of the E2 parking lot. As always, if the vehicle is returned during office hours, the keys must be returned to the front office. We would also like to remind Motor Pool clients to park Motor Pool vehicles, or personal vehicles with Motor Pool Parking Permits in stalls numbererd 200-281 in the E2 parking lot. The interior stalls numbered 100-157 do not belong to Motor Pool and are reserved for SOV permit holders. Please click here for a Map of E2
