Get ready to bike to campus in May for national Bike Month! Sign up for the 2014 Adobe Commute Challenge presented by F5 by visiting the Event Web site and join in the fun! Transportation Services will be sponsoring tons of great events throughout May to help prepare you and your friends for bicycling and to celebrate UW bicyclists so spread the word because the more the merrier!

Bike to Work Day
Date: Friday, May 16
Location: Rainier Vista at Stevens Way NE
If you pick just one day in May to challenge yourself to get to campus by bike, this should be it. Throughout Puget Sound, riders can stop by Commute Stations to pick up free prizes, snacks, city and county maps, bicycle commuting information, and have their bikes checked for free by bike shop station sponsors. Our campus Commute Station will be along Stevens Way at the Rainier Vista, right along the Burke Gilman Trail Detour. Recycled Cycles will be on hand to give free bike safety inspections and Commuter Services will be there to help with bike commute questions.
UW Trail Party
Date: Thursday, May 23rd
Time: 4-7 p.m.
Location: Burke-Gilman Trail Park between University Way and Brooklyn Ave
Come celebrate bicycling with UW Transportation Services and Cascade Bicycle Club at the UW Trail Party. There will be music, games, giveaways, and samples! While you’re there register your bike with the UW Police Department, get a free bike safety inspection from Performance Bicycle and a free basic bike fitting courtesy of Real Rehab Physical Therapists and R2 Bicycles. Student Health Advisory Quorum will be selling safety equipment and the Cascade Bicycle Club can help you find the best bike routes around Seattle.

I never realized before I started bike commuting how much I needed that time outside each day, to be active and give my brain time to transition into and out of the campus world.
This FREE introductory class shares information on how to select a bike, find a safe and comfortable route, and keep yourself and your bicycle safe as you explore this physically active, cost-effective and fun way of getting to campus. Our guest instructor from Cascade Bicycle Club will leave plenty of time for your questions. One hour, no pre-requisites, open to all members of the UW community.
Bike Commuting 102: Rules of the Road

I used to worry a lot about riding near car traffic, but I feel a lot more comfortable now, because I know where to ride and what to watch out for. This FREE class will help you understand the rules of the road for people on bikes, in vehicles, and on foot, and how you can ride defensively to avoid potential conflicts. Our guest instructor from Cascade Bicycle Club will also share some tips for commuting year-round in our exciting local weather, and will leave plenty of time for your questions. Bike Commuting 103: Fix your own flat tire

The bike shop called. They miss you. They loved how you would hang around and chat while they fixed your flat tires. What happened? You didn’t learn to fix flats yourself, did you?
You will leave this FREE class with an understanding of how to get your bike rolling again if the tire gets punctured. Our guest instructor from Cascade Bicycle Club will walk you through the steps of this simple and empowering process, so you can ride with extra confidence.
