Campus Engineering and Operations provides engineering support, and continuous, reliable operations of building systems and the campus utilities infrastructure for the University of Washington.
The mission of Campus Engineering is to provide professional engineering support for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of all University facilities - to ensure a safe, healthy, efficient and effective environment in support of the University’s teaching, research and public service programs.
Campus Operations maintains and operates critical building systems including fire/life safety systems, elevator systems, building environmental systems and controls, central clock systems, high voltage distribution systems, and a utility shutdown coordination program.
Campus Operations also provides emergency maintenance response service to the Seattle campus community, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through radio, cell and paging dispatch systems.
Campus Utilities provides steam heat for the majority of campus buildings and air conditioning for research lab and medical buildings. The Power Plant is a 175,000 square-foot facility housing the major equipment for the central campus heating, cooling, compressed air and emergency power generation systems.
