Graduate School Dissertation Fellowship Awarded
Peris Kibera has been chosen to receive a Graduate School Dissertation Fellowship for 2009-10. These awards provide one-quarter of the support for work on a student's dissertation. Additionally, Kibera will present a poster at the CDC-sponsored National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta in August. She has been given a full scholarship to attend.

Morna McEachern

Special Enders Graduate Fellowship Award Given
Morna McEachern received a special “first runner-up” award for the Enders Graduate Fellowship from the Association of Canadian Studies in the U.S. (ACSUS). McEachern's award includes a two-year membership in ACSUS and full funding for the biennial conference at which she will present a paper.

Tony Garcia’s paper, Contextual Pathways to Latino Child Welfare Involvement: A Theoretical Model Located in the Intersections of Place, Culture, & Socio-Structural Factors, has been accepted for publication in Children and Youth Services Review.

Tatiana Masters

Tatiana Masters' article, “My strength is not for hurting: Men's anti-rape web sites and their construction of masculinity and male sexuality," has been accepted for publication in Sexualities.

Alma Trinidad presented her paper, Challenging Inequalities and Oppression through Critical Pedagogy of Place: Two Cases of Community-based Youth Organizing, at the 2009 Association for Asian American Studies Conference in April.
