We are part of the academic fabric of the University, and we are always looking for ways not just to respond to, but to anticipate, the needs of our users to fulfill our mission of connecting people with knowledge.
Sometimes we can't foresee how a researcher will utilize the Libraries resources.
A great example of that is in this quarter's e-news: Data from a decades-old thesis sitting on the Libraries shelves resulted in changes in how scientists predict local earthquakes.
We never know when knowledge created in the past will help future researchers. With help from knowledgeable Libraries staff, our resources can be accessible for curious academic minds decades from now -- even if we can't predict how they will be used. |

Connecting people to knowledge. Nearly forgotten research questions a widely used method for estimating Pacific Northwest earthquake hazards. UW Libraries had the original theses and corresponding data logs, unavailable elsewhere, that documented these previous findings. Learn more.

Welcome, John Danneker. After a nationwide search, the Libraries is happy to announce that John Danneker assumed the role of director of Odegaard Undergraduate Library on September 15, 2014. Danneker spent the last 13 years in positions at George Washington (GW) University in Washington, DC. Learn more. |

Art Prints of Sadao Watanabe.

This exhibit showcases Christianity though the folk art of Japanese printmaker and artist Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996), Watanabe's stencil prints, original stencils and tools, as well as monographs from the East Asia Library collection on mingei. Learn more. |

Heather McHugh.
Oct. 30, 7 p.m. | Kane Hall, room 210. Heather McHugh, the Maxine Cushing Gray Distinguished Writer for 2014-15 speaks on The Art of Meaning. A 2009 MacArthur Fellow, McHugh has been a significant voice in American literary life for over four decades. She is the author of eight volumes of poetry, numerous works of translation and a book of essays on poetics. Learn more. |

Carlos Bulosan papers.

In commemoration of the centennial of Carlos Bulosan's birth, this exhibit draws on the papers of the poet and author, the cannery workers union and various Filipino American labor leaders within the broader context of Seattle's Filipino American community, the progressive political culture in which he participated.
