Sneak Preview and Golf Classic recaps

John Curley
The 12th annual Husky Football Sneak Preview, sponsored by the Husky Band Foundation, was once again a huge success! Proceeds from the evening’s auction raised more than $40,000 to help supplement the band’s operating budget. The 250 in attendance at the August 20 event enjoyed hearing from Husky legend Sonny Sixkiller and UW Vice President (and former band member!) Randy Hodgins and got pumped for the season with comments by Football Head Coach Chris Petersen. Former band member (and KJR radio personality) Dick Fain once again served as emcee for the evening and gave some great insights on the upcoming season from the media’s perspective. However, the biggest thrill of the night undoubtedly came from the jokes and non-stop energy from the evening’s celebrity guest auctioneer, John Curley (pictured), who kept the audience highly entertained throughout the evening!

Last August’s Husky Alumni Band Golf Classic—also in its 12th year—was the largest one to date. As in the past, the event helped raise much-needed scholarship funds for the band, especially for the drum major positions. As a result of the generosity of all those in attendance, the current drum majors were each presented with $2,000 scholarships for fall quarter. Once again the Mandell family assisted in running the event and helped raise scholarship funds in memory of family member Andrew Mandell, who was himself a Husky Band drum major.

If you attended either of these events this summer, thank you for your continued support of the band and please plan on coming out next August for the 2015 edition. Future dates and information will be posted on the band’s website and the alumni band website.
