Northwest Sinfonietta

Northwest Sinfonietta offers a 30% on all single tickets as a UWAA membership benefit!

Northwest Sinfonietta is the premier professional chamber orchestra of the Puget Sound region.  Founded in 1991, our organization inspires and connects people and communities through art music. As a small ensemble of 35 musicians, the Sinfonietta (meaning ‘little symphony’ in Italian) blends the intimacy of chamber music with the power of a full symphony orchestra.

The Sinfonietta is one of a handful of chamber orchestras worldwide to have moved from a traditional centralized Music Director model to a collaborative Artistic Partner model. This allows our musicians to take a larger role in the vision and programming of the season, working closely with multiple talented conductors and performers. Northwest Sinfonietta is currently partnering with three world-class conductors—Yaniv Attar, Mei-Ann Chen and Jeffery Meyer.

Northwest Sinfonietta is honored to serve our South Sound communities, bringing inspiring  concerts to audiences in Tacoma, Puyallup and other run-out locations throughout the area. Northwest Sinfonietta’s Orchestra at Work program supports music education at Tacoma Public Schools, Puyallup School District and other area schools, providing local students with opportunities to work with professional musicians and access open rehearsals and concerts. Northwest Sinfonietta’s low-sensory concert and musical storytelling programs bring art music experiences to young pre-school and elementary aged children, including hands-on instrument building and exploration. NWS also offers an annual Youth Concerto Competition for local high school musicians. Through our Heartstrings program, the Sinfonietta works with many community organizations to provide free concert access to underserved members of our communities, and we additionally collaborate with many other organizations and schools as community partners throughout the concert season. Some of our 2023-24 season community partners include Tacoma and Puyallup Public Libraries, Pierce College Puyallup, Tacoma Community College, T.A.C.I.D., Pierce County Aids Alliance, YWCA Pierce County, and many others.
