A message from Ujima Donalson
Assistant Vice President,
Total Talent Management

As we prepare to welcome another academic year, I’d like to take a moment to share how Total Talent Management is coming together. UWHR reorganized nearly two years ago and in that time we in TTM have been striving to become a cohesive team that offers a robust and comprehensive service model to the University community. To that end, in this issue I’d like to focus on our successes, service commitments and hopes for the future.

We have been fortunate to garner support and resources to enable Director Michael Campbell and other folks in Recruiting and Staffing to better serve the UW, realize long-hoped-for improvements and optimize the “total” in Total Talent Management. Last fall we brought on Terra Kerr in the role of recruiting and sourcing specialist, and she is now collaborating extensively with Diversity Recruiter Ebonee Anderson, whose position was created with funding from the President’s Office. You can read more about the work Ebonee is doing below. Read More

Building upon UW's diversity brand
Interview with Ebonee Anderson, Diversity Recruiter, Total Talent Management

You were hired into the new diversity recruiter position in April. What has your work involved over the past few months, and where do you see it going?

I’m not a reinvent-the-wheel kind of person, so my strategy is to work with existing champions — of which there are many here at the UW — to see how we can collaborate and help each other get results. One of my first steps was reaching out to people across campus who have “diversity” in their title, and to others who may not have it in their title but are doing diversity and inclusion work (D&I). I’ve also been working closely with Simone Willynck and others in the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity as well as reaching out to leaders of various affinity groups to find out how they’re leveraging those groups and about any potential gaps or challenges. Catherine Bachy to talk at The Compassionate Leadership Summit. The summit, which is being held at the HUB on Nov. 8 & 9, is focused on how we might bring compassion and mindfulness more effectively into organizations and communities. Catherine’s session, Embody Presence for Compassionate Leadership, integrates learning from the disciplines of mindfulness and the martial art of aikido to offer practical wisdom for compassionate leadership. Her session serves as an introduction to the Mindfulness and Leadership class that she teaches through POD in autumn and spring quarters.

POD by the numbers

As a primarily self-sustaining unit serving staff, leaders and faculty at the UW, POD is committed to delivering quality programs and services while operating with superior financial stewardship. For the previous fiscal year, registrations for our self-sustaining quarterly courses and webinars hit their targets across the board, and the new Learning Lab program, which launched partway through the fiscal year, is well on its way to breaking even.

Meanwhile, we also matched our previous record for the Support Professionals Spring Retreat, with 221 registrations, and nearly 300 staff have indicated they end to pursue the Administrative Excellence Certificate, which debuted last year.

Below is a sampling of POD’s service numbers for Fiscal Year 2019. You can view the complete service numbers PDF on our website.
