Exploring Housing Options for Older Adults 2023

The retirement housing marketplace is complex. These three sessions provide an overview that will get you started on your own personal exploration of the options, for yourself or someone you care for. Part one is an online presentation covering the basics, followed by a deep dive into the financial decisions surrounding housing choices. Finally, we held an in-person panel discussion featuring fellow UW retirees currently living in a variety of Seattle-area retirement communities.

A presentation covering the basics of retirement housing: levels of care, cost considerations, determining the right time to move, alternative options including aging in place, and more.

Our speaker, Heather Young, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a nurse leader, educator, scientist and nationally recognized expert in gerontological nursing and rural health care. Young is national director of the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program for Nurse Leaders and Innovators and a professor in the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis.
