Contemporary Applications of Physics. Topics include Cryptography, Atomic Microscopes, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Energy Production and use, Nuclear Energy. Background material to be covered includes basic Quantum Physics and Nuclear Physics.

Understanding recent issues, controversies, and developments.
General method of instruction
Lectures/Discussions with a few small group sessions in a Lab setting.
Physics 121 and 122 or 114 and 115. Physics 116 or 123 is recommended.
Class assignments and grading
Four one page reports handed in approximately every two weeks, each based on a recent newspaper or magazine article with a scientific content. Two midterm exams. No final exam.
