Disease Concepts for Managers

Develops a methodology for understanding and communicating dimensions of disease states as all health state that a person might experience. Presents clear, effective ways to describe the diversity of health conditions and focuses on disease from a health information systems perspective.

Class description

Clinical concepts in Cardiology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Neurology,Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology

Student learning goals

Understand basic mechanisms of disease.

Identify common presentations of common diseases.

Identify tools used in making diagnoses

Understand the process of making diagnoses and differential diagnoses

Have a basic knowledge of names and classes of pharmacological agents

Understand rationale for treatment plans.

General method of instruction

Lecture, demonstration and discussion

Recommended preparation

Anatomy and physiology, medical terminology

Class assignments and grading
