Special studies designed to address contemporary and historical concerns in the field of dance.
The course will provide students with intensive practice in writing performance reviews from the dancerís perspective and provide a historical overview of Western modern dance criticism from the 1930s to the present day. By the end of the quarter students will be able to communicate an informed and well-argued opinion about the role of the dance critic, the dance review and what the future may hold for the field of dance criticism. Writings will be built around observations of weekly video viewings and live performances.
