Carroll Dunham
Paintings and Drawings

Phyllis Plous

This is the first major publication to examine the combined production in painting and drawing of one of America's foremost, mid-career exponents of contemporary abstraction. The book focuses on examples from the past six years of Carroll Dunham's amazingly prolific, rigorous, and challenging body of work.

Phyllis Plous provides an in-depth essay that traces Dunham's influences and his approach to painting. Rejecting what he regards as the exhausted paradigms of high modernism, Dunham's work has been characterized by an audacious and vital combination of formal discipline, content and context, and his career by an intention to re-empower contemporary painting practice.

The jacket was drawn especially for the book by Dunham and printed by Universal Limited Art Editions, Inc.
