Examines the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors involved in drug dependency. Examines prevention, intervention, treatment, and 12-step programs including those related to various ethnic and cultural groups. Prerequisite: either TPSYCH 100 or PSYCH 101.
Class description
This class not only covers the major drug classifications, it also is very heavy on treatment of drug use. Specifically, learning Motivational Interviewing, a therapy type, in some depth. Expect to spend a little more than half of the class time in lecture over specific drugs and a third in learning how to provide Motivational Interviewing as well as basic counseling skills (which you will learn in class).
