Media Genres

Study of genre, the thematic classification of films (e.g. westerns, musicals) and television programming. Topics vary, but can include comedy, news/documentary, musical, and social-problem melodramas.

Class description

Media Genres: Conspiracy Thrillers.

This genre, also called "Paranoid Thrillers," was very popular during the 1970's and is enjoying a renaissance today. We'll investigate why this is so and examine a number of the genre's key films, as well as its recurrent themes, iconography and cultural use value.
