Explores the role of cultural production under the impact of shifting patronage, such as propaganda in the service of institutions, governments, and individuals, during the late 16th through early 18th centuries. Examines the influence of politics, religion, and intellectual thought on arts and culture in a socioeconomic context. Focusses on the Counter-Reformation, Papal Rome, the Dutch Republic, and the French court.
