Systematic study of specialized subject matter. Topics vary for each quarter, depending upon current interest and needs, and are announced in the preceding quarter. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.

Class description

This class will introduce students to a number of free, open source software packages with particular attention devoted to R, LaTeX and GRASS. See: R: http://www.r-project.org/ LaTeX: http://www.latex-project.org/ GRASS: http://grass.osgeo.org/ The intent of the course is to familiarize students with techniques for easily repeatable analysis through the use of basic programming and for generating visualizations not otherwise possible with traditional software tools. Although the examples used will be related to urban planning, the course will be of interest to a broad student audience.
