Introduction to Ottoman Turkish

Introduction to Turkish in Arabic characters to cover the peculiar grammatical and syntactical problems of Ottoman.

Class description

This class is NOT on Ottoman Turkish but an Advance Class on written Turkish of 1920s until today. Students are required to have some competence in spoken and written Turkish and have a minimum of two years of experience in Turkish language study.

Student learning goals

Reading and analyzing texts in modern Turkish from 20th and 21st centuries.

Writing lengthy analytic essays in Turkish.

Developing skills in listening comprehension

Developing skills in reading and speaking comprehension.

General method of instruction
