Class description
Emergent Functions of Metaphor: Relation of metaphor to the flow of information, including applications of metaphor to research, design, and communication.
Student learning goals
Familiarity with major theories of metaphor from philosophy, linguistics, and cognitive science (including recent findings on the centrality of metaphor to human cognition).
Applications of metaphor to the achievement of clarity across contexts (with particular attention to human-computer interaction and organizational coherence).
