Class description
Välkommen till Svenska 103!! Welcome to Swedish 103!! We in the Department of Scandinavian Studies believe that the primary goal of language instruction should be the development of communication skills. Through our approach, we hope to achieve a high degree of interaction in the classroom that will make your learning of Swedish enjoyable. We would like to teach you how to communicate in Swedish and at the same time, to help you explore Sweden’s culture and rich history, as well as the daily life and the mentality of the Swedish people. We will teach you the language as it is spoken and written in Sweden today. We will give equal emphasis to all five language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. As class time is an invaluable resource for practicing language skills, attendance is essential to your success in this course.

Prerequisites are completion of SWED 101 and SWED 102, or approved equivalent.
Class assignments and grading
Grading Scale:
10 % - Class participation – This does not mean “attendance,” but rather is based on your active participation in class activities, which contributes to the learning of your fellow students, as well. 20% - Homework – Homework exercises will be assigned frequently, such as activities from the workbook, handouts, and writing assignments, and occasional group projects. Homework will NOT be accepted late under any circumstances! 40 % - Tests (5) Tests will be given every other Friday. Your lowest test score will be dropped. 20 % - Quizzes (4) Short content and vocabulary quizzes will be given on the weeks that tests will not. 10 % - Oral Exam (1) Oral examinations will be arranged during the last two weeks (no other tests or quizzes these weeks).
