Assessment and Treatment of Adolescent Communication Disorders

Examines the principles and procedures used in the assessment and treatment of adolescent school-aged speech and language disorders. Prerequisite: SPHSC 303 and SPHSC 304, or equivalent.

Class description

This course will use problem-based learning to interact with case-based learning. Assessment and treatment of adolescent language disorders will be examined through specific disability types.

Student learning goals

Students will be able to identify appropriate assessment tools for adolescent language disorders.

Students will be able to identify appropriate intervention objectives for adolescent language disorders.

Students will be able to write clinical reports based on assessment and intervention information.

Students will engage in problem-based learning in small groups to facilitae their collaboration skills as professionals.

General method of instruction

Lecture, small-group work, discussion

Recommended preparation

Completion of preschool and school age child language disorders courses.

Class assignments and grading

Group report projects, take-home test, reflection paper, participation.
