Seminar in Applied Special Education

Designed for graduate students in special education. Focus on contemporary topics relating to the application of the theoretical constructs to special education. Offered: AWSp.

Class description

This class focuses on methods of reading instruction in elementary school with a particular emphasis on effective, research-based methods for teaching struggling readers. This class is appropriate for any masters student interested in learning more about effective methods to teach reading to a wide range of students.

General method of instruction

This will be a hybrid class, with face-to-face meetings on campus from 9:00 to 12:00 on June 25, 26, 27, 28. Then the learning will take place online with assignments, learning activities, assessment activities, readings, etc. done by students independently and online with the instructor and classmates. We will meet again face-to-face from 9:00 to 12:00 on July 30 & August 1. After this, there will be time for students to complete final assignments before the end of summer B term on August 17. This means that students will only have to come to campus 6 times, but will need access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection the rest of the time.
