Examination of various aspects of marine studies. Content varies, depending upon the interests of the faculty and students. Intended for the joint participation by the faculty and advanced students in the investigation of selected topics. One or more groups are organized each quarter.
Class description
MARINE TRANSPORTATION: This graduate seminar explores through readings and class discussion the evolution of domestic and international maritime policies and contemporary issues in marine transportation. Topics include the state of the North American marine highway system, the rise of the cruise tourism industry, shipping and the marine environment, including risks associated with sea transport of oil, the Panama Canal expansion and the future of US West Coast ports, and the Arctic as commercial shipping’s Final Frontier.
