Introduction to Probability and Statistics

Applications to biological and natural resource problems stressing the formulation and interpretation of statistical tests. Random variables, expectations, variances, binomial, hypergeometric, Poisson, normal, chi-square, "t" and "F" distributions. Prerequisite: either MATH 120, MATH 124, MATH 125, MATH 126, MATH 144, or Q SCI 291,or a minimum score of 2 on advanced placement test, or a minimum score of 67% on MATHPC placement test. Offered: AWSpS.

Class description

Introduction to basic Probability and Statistics. Descriptive Statistics, Probalility, Random Variables, Sampling Distributions, Estimation and Confidence Intervals, Hypothesis Testing, basic Regression and ANOVA.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

The class will meet each day M trough F. There will be two quiz sections every week on Tuesday and Thursday and lecture on Monday, Wednesday, Fiday.

Recommended preparation

Prerequisite: either MATH 120, a minimum score of 2 on advanced placement test, or a minimum score of 67% on MATHPC placement test. Offered: AWSpS

Class assignments and grading

There will be a weekly assignement related to the material introduced during lecture.

The final grade will result from a weighted average, assigning 20% to HW, 25% to each one of two midterms and 30% to the final exam.
