Examines major theoretical problems, substantive issues, and schools of thought in international political economy (IPE), including issues of trade, production, and finance. Preparation for critical analysis of dilemmas entailed in establishing and maintaining an instrumentally effective and ethically acceptable IPE system.
Class description
Description: This course will cover the fundamentals of global political economy, including the political economy of international trade, investment, capital flows, and multinational corporations. We will also examine problems of development and underdevelopment between the global north and south. Different schools of thought will be examined (neoclassical economics, realist, and Marxist). The cases for and against globalization will be explored.
