Intensive reading and research in selected problems or fields of political analysis.
Class description
This is a course about the politics of institutional failure, with a focus on American governmental institutions. Students will evaluate various public policy programs—including the U.S. national security establishment, the war on crime, the war on drugs, the war on poverty and education reform in inner-city schools—on the basis of policymakers' expressed aims, the founders' regime goals, and the distribution of costs and benefits.
