Class description
CONTEMPORARY DEMOCRATIC THEORY. This seminar focuses on cutting-edge work in democratic theory. After a prelude on Audre Lorde, the course turns to a consideration of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose work is foundational for contemporary democratic theory. It then shifts to twentieth- and twenty-first-century democratic theorists, including Hannah Arendt, Jacques Derrida, Bonnie Honig, Jürgen Habermas, Seyla Benhabib, Sheldon Wolin, Chantal Mouffe, Jacques Rancière, and Judith Butler.
