Laboratory giving specific instruction and experience in interfacing laboratory equipment to computers. Prerequisite: PHYS 334. Offered: A.
Class description
Students will learn some of the basics about connecting computers to experimental apparatus, such as principles of analog/digital conversion, digital input/output, computer-aided analysis, and how to use the industry-standard LabVIEW software system.

General method of instruction
There will be a little bit of lecture and some homework, but mostly the instruction consists of a series of hands-on laboratory work.
Recommended preparation
Students should be comfortable working with computers and have a general physics knowledge equivalent to the prerequisites for, and including, physics 123. Although phyics 334 is listed as a prerequisite, taking it as a co-requisite is acceptable.
Students should also be prepared to put a significant amount of time into lab assignments.
Class assignments and grading
There are no exams, and a couple of off-site homework sets. Most of the course is made up of lab projects.
Grades are assigned based on the performance of lab projects and homework.
