Introductory Selected Topics

Class description

Contemporary Applications of Physics. Topics include Lasers,Atomic microscopes, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Tomography, Energy Production and use, Nuclear Energy. Background material to be covered includes Quantum Physics, Nuclear Physics, Relativity.

General method of instruction

Lectures, with a few small group sessions in a Lab setting.

Recommended preparation

Should have completed Physics 121 and 122 or 114 and 115. Physics 116 or 123 Recommended.

Class assignments and grading

some homework and one paper on a topic of interest to the student
