Seminar in Metaphysics

Class description

In this course, we will investigate two of the most central topics in metaphysics: first, the nature of causation; and, second, the nature of time. In addition to being metaphysically fundamental, these two topics connect with each other in interesting ways, the most obvious being (a) the relation between the direction of time and the direction of causation, and (b) the possibility or impossibility of backwards causation and time travel. Students will be required to write a term paper and to do at least one in-class presentation.
