Development of axiomatic set theory up to and including the consistency of the Axiom of Choice and Continuum Hypothesis with the Zermelo-Fraenkel Axioms.
Class description
This course is an introduction to set theory. Topics include basic operations, axiomatics, relations, orderings, functions, choice, the Peano postulates, well orderings, infinite sets, infinite numbers, cardinal ordering, and cardinal arithmetic. Prerequisite: PHIL 120. Recommended: any 300-400 MATH course.
