PHIL 401
Seattle Campus
A study of philosophical topics at the advanced level. Topics vary.
Class description
In this course, we will study two closely related topics: free will and moral responsibility. It is very hard to do justice to either topic without understanding the other. We will start with readings focusing on the free will debate, and by the time we move on to the readings focusing on moral responsibility, it will become clear that one of the most important questions in this area is whether moral responsibility requires free will (in any of its different conceptions). There will be several short writing assignments, as well as a term paper required. This is a "capstone course" restricted to philosophy honors students. Meets I&S requirement. For Philosophy Honors students only. Add code required. For add code email philadv@u.washington.edu.
