Class description
This class will cover the engineering and science aspects of processing various forms of biomass into liquid fuels, with particular emphasis on lignocellulosic biomass sources and ethyl alcohol produciton. It will also cover process fundamentals of biomass for energy generation and high value bioproducts.

General method of instruction
Lectures by the two instructors; some homework problems. Assigned readings and class discussion by students will also be involved.
Recommended preparation
Students should have a science and engineering background and interest for this course. Basic course work in chemistry (inorganic and organic), physics, and engineering fundamentals such as thermodynamics will be useful in assimilating the course material.
